The Rise of Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha & Leicester City F.C.
More than just a football owner.
I want to start by saying my thoughts are with Vichai’s family and everyone associated with Leicester City FC in this tragic time. I have decided to dedicate this week’s entry to Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha.
He was the man who made a dream come true for Leicester City F.C.
He was the inspiration behind Leicester City’s 5,000–1 Premier League title fairy tale.
His kindness stretched further than just Leicester City Football Club
Thai businessman Vichai Raksriaksorn in 2007 was worth an estimated $200m, a decade later he is now worth an estimated $4billion. This new worth brought him a new name Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, a title given by Thailand’s king. This is a Thai tradition for the monarch to grant honorary surnames to people who have made large contributions to the country. He stated that it was “our [his] family’s greatest honour to receive this royally granted surname”.
Vichai bought Leicester for £39m in 2010 and the most successful period in their history followed. He arrives before home games with Buddhist monks who bless the pitch prior to kick off. Alex Hyton (Vichai’s personal assistant for 9 months) explained “he is actually a pretty normal bloke or as…
