- Monday 23rd July 2018–35 locations around the world recorded their highest heat records ever.
- 300 deaths in Japan due to weather related incidents in just July alone. 300 deaths.
- 80 deaths in one week in Japan due to a heatwave.
- The Environmental Audit Committee warns of 7,000 heat-related deaths every year in the UK by 2050 if the government doesn’t act quickly.
- 97 percent: The percentage of scientists who agree that warming trends over the past century are very likely caused by human activity.
- 8 inches: Rise in global sea levels over the last century. The rate of rise has nearly doubled in the last two decades.
Scientific evidence for warming of the climate system is unequivocal.
I first stumbled across climate change when I read a book at the age of 12 called the Inconvenient Truth by Al Gore. That book would forever leave an imprint in my mind.
The impacts of climate change are no longer subtle
The current heatwave we are undergoing is due to the stalling of jet stream wind which usually cools down Atlantic weather throughout continents. This has meant that the air has been hotter and dryer for last two months. This is largely attributed to global warming.
