Colorado’s Ruling on Trump is a Disgrace
The Colorado Supreme Court made the historic decision to declare Donald Trump ineligible to hold office under the US constitution’s insurrection clause.
The judges ordered that he be removed from the state’s presidential primary ballot. The 4–3 decision means for the first time ever a presidential candidate is declared as unqualified for office under the provision that bars insurrectionists from holding office.
The decision has sparked the debate of the conflicted relationship between America’s political system and judicial system. This debate is unlikely to end any time soon, with the battle between the two expected to dominate the 2024 headlines in the U.S.
The latest setback is unlikely to damage Trump’s presidential campaign, in fact it will only be used to his advantage. Although a few liberal groups and anti-Trump voters celebrate the decision, the vast majority of the Democrats are staying quiet. There are many reasons for this, one being the pending appeal. Trump’s team has already promised they will appeal the decision, taking their case to the Supreme Court. Here he is likely to win on appeal as even his sharpest critics will tell you that the relevant section of the 14th amendment does not apply to presidents.
